Three-week insert period to begin March 21

State Treasurer John Perdue’s office will soon distribute “Discover,” an approximately 15,000-name publication of those unintentionally separated from financial assets.

The largest newspaper in each county is designated to insert the publication during a three-week cycle: March 21, March 28 and April 4. Each date is a Thursday. Some copies are direct mailed to residents’ homes.

The Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Division collects the names and the office publishes both spring and fall editions. Each name represents the rightful owner of unclaimed property, which by law is identified as those unintentionally separated from financial assets such as a final paycheck, life insurance benefits, left-behind security deposits or uncashed stock dividends. Real estate is not involved.

Treasurer Perdue’s office has returned approximately $191 million in unclaimed property since he assumed office in January of 1997.
