West Virginia State Treasurer John Perdue is scheduled to speak at Middle Creek Elementary in Ohio County at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21. Treasurer Perdue will speak about the SMART529 education savings plan with students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. He is also expected to be accompanied by special guest “Spike” mascot of the Wheeling Nailers.

“Spike” of the Wheeling Nailers will accompany Treasurer Perdue to talk about the SMART529 partnership with the Wheeling Nailers hockey team. The SMART529 program will host an Education Day at the 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 Wheeling Nailers home game against Cincinnati.
In addition to talking with students about the benefits of saving for higher education, Treasurer Perdue will also present Middle Creek Elementary with a $500 check for having a regional finalist in the 2019 SMART529 “When I Grow Up” essay contest.
SMART529 is a program of the West Virginia College Prepaid Tuition and Savings Program Board of Trustees, with Treasurer Perdue serving as Chairman of the Board. The SMART529 education savings plans has more than 117,000 accounts with investments totaling over $2.5 billion. West Virginia’s SMART529 program is open to investors nationwide.
