FAIRLEA – West Virginia State Treasurer John D. Perdue is promoting college savings at the 2015 State Fair of West Virginia in Greenbrier County with his popular “‘Stache Some Cash for College” photo booth display in the West Virginia University (WVU) Building.

“It’s a fun reminder that people need to think about the expense of higher education, and ‘stache some cash now with a SMART529 account,” said Treasurer Perdue.

Participants are encouraged to choose their favorite mustache-on-a-stick and pose in front of a digital photo display. The pictures are then uploaded to the State Treasurer’s Office social media sites. People may tag themselves in the Facebook photo albums uploaded each day.

“The Facebook picture gallery has been extremely popular with people checking back often to see their photos,” said Perdue.

SMART529 is West Virginia’s college savings program issued by the West Virginia College Prepaid Tuition and Savings Program Board of Trustees, under the direction of State Treasurer John Perdue, Chairman. The SMART529 program, established more than 12 years ago, boasts more than $2 billion in financial assets. The program is administered by Hartford Life.
