State Treasurer John Perdue presented West Virginia Wesleyan College Interim President Boyd Creasman a $112,315 unclaimed property check Wednesday, during a ceremony at the Lynch Raine Administration Building.
Treasurer Perdue hands an Unclaimed Property check to Interim President Boyd Creasman. “I’m always thrilled to reunite a valuable educational entity such as West Virginia Wesleyan with lost funds,” the Treasurer said. “Wesleyan is, without a doubt, a crown jewel in this state’s higher education landscape. I’m sure President Creasman and his staff will find a use for these funds.”
Virtually all of the money is listed in records as assets surrendered to state Unclaimed Property from Vanguard Wellington, an investment firm. It is unclear from where the money originated.
Unclaimed property is any asset from which the rightful owner has become separated, such as a forgotten utility deposit, a left-behind final paycheck or safe deposit box contents.
Treasurer Perdue has returned more than $160 million to rightful owners during his previous five terms in office, including $13.9 million last year. The longest-serving Treasurer in state history, he begins his sixth term Jan. 16.
